Does RealVue3D support Kanji Fonts?

Current versions of RealVue3D do not presently support Kanji or 2 bit fonts. Any PDF's that include such fonts will view correctly in Acrobat and generate a JAR file (RealVue3D Simulation), but this JAR file will not open. However a work around would be to convert these types of fonts into outlines before generating your PDF, which should then allow the JAR file to be successfully generated and viewed.

Jar files can sometimes be bigger than PDF files?

It is not always the case that you get a smaller PDF. One of the main factors in this is that with small PDFs, when they become JAR files we add 1.8 meg of Java data to them. This includes all the items to make them run on Mac and PC. Also all the pages are created at 1024 x 1024 JPG files by RealVue3D, so depending on number of pages and how well they compress. e.g. a file with 200 text pages in PDF will be much smaller than 200 pages with pictures, but for us the 200 pages will be about the same size.

Security of sending Jar files/e-mail blocking

The .jar extension is not a file that is blocked by default by MS Outlook (unlike .exe, .bat or scripts for example). System administrators may configure their e-mail to block specific file types and in this case if the .jar is blocked there are two possible solutions. The file can be renamed to an unblocked type (such as .txt) then renamed upon receipt, or it can be compressed by a utility such as Winzip or Stuffit prior to sending.

How to embed a RealVue3D demo file on a webpage

Below is an example of how to embed a RealVue JAR file in a webpage. You simply use the <applet> tag. Just replace the name of the jar file and the description (shown below in red) with information relevant to your own JAR file. Note subapplet.classname must always say RealVue3D.

For example...

<applet code="org.jdesktop.applet.util.JNLPAppletLauncher"
width="1024"
height="768"
archive="http://download.java.net/media/applet-launcher/applet-launcher.jar,http:
//download.java.net/media/jogl/builds/archive/jsr-231-webstart-current/jogl.jar,http:
//download.java.net/media/gluegen/webstart/gluegen-rt.jar,name of jarfile.jar">
<param name="codebase_lookup" value="false">
<param name="subapplet.classname" value="RealVue3D">
<param name="subapplet.displayname" value="name of jar file">
<param name="noddraw.check" value="true">
<param name="progressbar" value="true">
<param name="jnlpNumExtensions" value="1">
<param name="jnlpExtension1" value="http://download.java.net/media/jogl/builds/archive/jsr-231-webstart-current/jogl.jnlp">
</applet>

What is the difference between Presenter and Designer versions of RealVue3D?

The Presenter version of RealVue3D is a limited version. It is limited to only being able to output a single file in any document and has no ability to change or alter any of the settings. Presenter is designed mainly for corporate users who wish for a simple application to create 3D output. Designer is focused more on print simulation and is aimed at designers wanting a tool to present ideas and concepts to clients. These of course are not the only uses for these versions, check out the product comparison tables for a better idea of the product differences.

What is the difference between Designer and Designer Pro versions of RealVue3D?

Designer Pro has all the same great features of Designer and then some. With Designer Pro you will be able to create and simulate all kinds of simple and complex fold designs. See how your bifolds, trifolds and gatefolds will look on the cover or inside pages with varying page sizes.

Designer Pro is also the gateway to enable you to make use of great new plug in features we have in development - watch this space for cut designer, embossing and special print effects.

Can I upgrade my existing RealVue3D product?

Yes.  Presenter can be upgraded to Designer and Designer can be upgraded to Designer Pro. Please contact us for details

Have you downloaded the free java software from the sun java web site? The most likely reason is you do not have Java installed or it is not the correct version. You need to have at least Java 5.0.12 installed on your system.

To update you Java visit
For a PC User go to:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

I have installed the Java software, but I still cannot view the web demo. It just sits there saying Loading.... ?

It is possible that you need to wait longer. When Java loads a RealVue3D applet over the web it can take time to download all the applet components to your machine. Depending on the speed of your internet connection this can take between a few seconds and several minutes. It is also possible that your firewall may be blocking the execution of java applets. Contact you system administrator for advise on enabling them on your system.

Another possible ( but unlikely ) reason could be if you at any point installed a pre release version of RealVue3D and installed the RVJavaUpdater that went with these early preview versions. If this is the case you should delete there updated files from your system. If you think this might apply to you

Mac Users should delete the following files
/Library/Java/Extensions/gluegen-rt.jar
/Library/Java/Extensions/jogl.jar
/Library/Java/Extensions/libgluegen-rt.jnilib
/Library/Java/Extensions/libjogl.jnilib
/Library/Java/Extensions/libjogl_awt.jnilib
/Library/Java/Extensions/libjogl_cg.jnilib

PC Users should delete the following files
/Program files/Java/JRE<JavaVersion>/lib/ext/gluegen-rt.jar
/Program files/Java/JRE<JavaVersion>/lib/ext/jogl.jar
/Program files/Java/JRE<JavaVersion>/bin/gluegen-rt.dll

When I try and install the macintosh Java software from the RealVue3D web site, I get an alert indicating that the volume contains a newer version of Java.

The current version of OSX 10.4.10 for macintosh does in fact have a more up to date version of Java already installed with the operating system, J2SE5 Release 5 so you would not need to install the Java software from the RealVue 3D web site which is J2SE Release4. These are constantly being updated.

When trying to download Java I get an error message ‘Your security settings do not allow web sites to use Active X on your computer'?

This means that your internet security settings have been set to medium or high which does not allow the download, installation or running of Active X.

These settings can be changed by enabling the download and running of Active X within your web browser security settings. An example of changing Internet Explorer settings are outlined below which should then allow the download and installation process to proceed:

When I try to download Java on to my PC, I get a warning that I do not have Active X installed. How do I install this?

Java requires the installation of Active X on your PC. If you are downloading from the Java web site you will be prompted to install Active X and this will automatically begin as part of your Java installation process as the following window indicates:

Even when I have downloaded and installed the Java software on my PC, I am unable to view the web demo.

When you first install the Java software from the Java web site it is recommended that you allow the Java installation to verify that you have downloaded the correct version of Java for your particular machine. This occurs right at the end of the installation process where your PC can be interrogated to ensure that the right installation is present.

If the wrong install is present you will receive a notification message that an incorrect version of Java is installed and you will then be prompted to install a new update. This triggers a new installation process which can then be verified once the process has completed.

A successful installation will be verified by the attached windows.

When I click on the web demo on the RealVue3D web site, nothing happens and I cannot view the demo.

The most likely reason is you do not have Java installed or it is not the correct version. You need to have at least Java 5.0.12 installed on your system.

My RealVue3D plug in activation code fails with an activation problem error message CPROT_BAD_UNLOCK_CODE ?

You are trying to use an activation code against the wrong installation number ID.

When you first request an unlock code you have to supply an installation ID that is generated when the plug in is first installed.

The activation code supplied by FFEI will only unlock the plug in software that corresponds to same installation ID.

If you have re-installed the plug in software since requesting an activation code, the installation ID will no longer correspond to that code and you will have to request a new activation code with your new installation ID, which you will find in the activate window of the RealVue3D dialogue.

When I generate a RealVue3D image there are watermarks running through it when it is viewed. How can I remove this?

You will need to activate your software by registering your installation ID with us (See the RealVue3D web site for further details). Once we have all the information required we will generate an activation code that will unlock your software and the watermarks will no longer be produced when a 3D image is generated.

I have licensed my RealVue3D but now the preferences and document settings buttons on the main window are greyed out?

You have purchased a Presenter version of RealVue3D and only the Designer (or higher) version of RealVue3D allows access to these features.

Application Functions

How do I use the RealVue3D plug in software?

Simply open up a multi page PDF in Acrobat. Select Tools/RealVue3D in the Acrobat file menu where you will be presented with a RealVue3D dialogue.

Select the export button and you will be prompted to save the generated file. Once saved RealVue3D then processes a .JAR file and confirms that you have successfully created a RealVue Export. The dialogue then prompts you to view the output.

Can I Create a RealVue3D file showing more than one document?

Yes. However, you will need to open up all the PDF's of the documents you wish to view in Acrobat first.

The RealVue3D dialogue will show the list of all the documents you have opened in the order in which they will be viewed. This list is editable by using the remove, move up or down buttons. When exported and viewed, the top listed document will show by default. Press the down arrow key and all the other documents will be revealed for viewing.

These can be selected by using the left and right arrow keys or clicking and dragging on the documents in the java console. Double clicking or using the enter key will open the document which is shown in the foreground.

I generated a RealVue3D image of a multi-page PDF document with an overprint varnish on each page but all the pages appeared blank?

RealVue3D recognises PDF transparency so will only render the image if a varnish has been properly assigned in the document settings dialogue. So if a varnish has been overprinted on top of each page, select the varnish spot colour in document settings which should appear in the drop down menu of the select varnish spot window. When the file is re-exported the blank channel will convert to a varnish when viewing the output.

Can RealVue3D generate images from double page spreads?

Yes. In the document settings dialogue RealVue3D can split double page spreads in three different ways.
Select the Convert pages to spreads check box in document settings, which will activate the following options:

1. Convert all spreads to pages
2. Split all spreads except the first and last pages
3. Use the spread table to convert

Select one of these options, ok the settings and export to JAR. When viewing the output the image will show the pages that have been automatically split from the spreads.

How can I change the page thickness and fold of my document?

In document settings, a user can change the cover thickness and the inside page thickness in folio settings. There are also binding edge settings that will allow a document to fold in left, right, top and bottom bind settings. In addition to this, paper effects can be applied to adjust the glossiness of the cover and inside pages.

My RealVue3D document appears dull or dark in the black viewing window and the viewing window is too small?

You can change both the lighting conditions, colour temperature, background colour of the image and the viewing size in RealVue3D preferences to improve the viewing quality and viewing size of an image. Go to The RealVue3D dialogue window and click on preferences. However, your changes will only apply once RealVue3D reprocesses the .JAR file. You can even apply your own branding by importing a custom background JPEG or PNG file into the branding window in preferences.

How can I view pages other than click and dragging the mouse from page to page? Can I scroll to any part of a document without having to turn every page?

When viewing a document a user can user the up arrow key which will reveal all the individual pages in the document at the bottom of the java console. The left and right arrow keys can then be used to scroll to any page selection in the document. The Home and End keys on the keyboard can also be used to automatically scroll the pages from beginning to end of the document and vice versa.

How do I create my own background or insert my company logo?

Go to the preferences window and in the branding section select Browse to your preferred image which should be either .jpg or .png and no larger than 1024 x 1024 pixels resolution.

How do I create a spine in RealVue3D?

The spine artwork has to be inserted as a page into the PDF artwork before RealVue3D can render it into the spine area of the image. Once this has been done and saved, open up the RealVue3D dialogue document settings and select ‘use this page for the spine' function in page control. Then type in the page where the spine artwork is located. Ok the settings then export and view output.

The spine artwork should view correctly in the spine area of the RealVue3D image.
